Pair Activity
Saimon : Hello! Where do you live?
Tahmid : I live at Uttara in Dhaka.
Saimon : Can you tell me what things you see in your surroundings?
Tahmid : I see lots of houses, a park with trees, some restaurants (even on rooftops) and an airport around our house.
Saimon : What do you like most about your surroundings?
Tahmid : I like the park and the airport most. In the park there are trees which make the atmosphere fresh. The airport looks nice with planes taking off and landing.
Saimon : Is there anything you don’t like about your surroundings?
Tahmid : Yes, there is a club not very far from our house. And I don’t like it as miscreants gather there and use it as their sanctuary.
Saimon : I was going to ask you why you didn’t like it. But you’ve already answered that. Thanks.
Tahmid : You’re welcome.

One day, a wealthy father took his son on a trip to the village. He wanted to show his son how people lived there in the village. They spent a few days and nights in a nearby house. The son closely saw their everyday lives- their challenges and happiness. A FRESH PAIR OF EYES, UNIT FIFTEEN-1
After their return from the trip, the father asked his son how he liked the trip. “It was great, Dad,” the son replied. “Did you see how life can be?” the father asked. “Oh Yeah,” said the son.
“So what did you learn from the trip?” asked the father. The son answered, “I saw we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches the middle of the garden and they have a river that has no end. A FRESH PAIR OF EYES, UNIT FIFTEEN-1 We have imported lights and they have the stars at night. Our balcony reaches the front yard and they have the whole horizon.”
“Again, we have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve each other.”
“We buy our food, but they grow theirs. A FRESH PAIR OF EYES, UNIT FIFTEEN-1 We have walls around our house to protect us. But they have friends to protect them.” The son added, “Now, I know how happy they really are.”
Hearing the boy, the father became speechless and realized that city life doesn’t always make us happy. It’s love and care for others that make us happy.

a. A Starry Night

SOLUTION
After discussing in a group of five we decided to divide the task among ourselves. Accordingly the five illustrations are described by 5 members individually. They are as follows.
A Starry Night
When stars twinkle on a clear in the sky night, that can be called a starry night. It is very beautiful to look at. It seems that little bulbs of light are put throughout the sky. In the illustration, it looks like there is an exhibition of stars over the tree tops.
Looking at the picture I can imagine the scene. And in reality it will look more beautiful. I think it is the most wonderful a night.
A Riverside House
A house built beside a river is a riverside house. It is a nice place to live in. The people who live there get fresh air and the murmuring sound of water. They can have a nice view of the river with boats plying on it.
They can even bathe in the river and have a cruise whenever they wish. They can catch fish and have a pollution free environment. Moreover, it is a picturesque place.
A Green Field
A green field is where we see only green either of grass or of green paddy plants. In Bangladeshi villages this is a common scenery. As Bangladesh is an agricultural country our farmers cultivate various crops. During the season all the villages are like this except for some houses here and there. A scarecrow is seen in the middle of the field to scare away the crows or other birds. The green field soothes our eyes. For this greenery, the co-background of our flag is green.
A Forest
A forest is an area of land with lots of trees. In fact 33% of a country should be forested area. Though Bangladesh does not fall into that category but we have some forests too. Forests are essential for a country as trees are the largest receiver of carbon dioxide. They provide oxygen instead.
A forest is a natural habitat for various animals. It brings rain and protects our soil from erosion. So, it is ecologically very important. Hence we need to protect our forest that the dishonest businessman can’t destroy it indiscriminately.
A Wide-Open Playground Containing a Banyan Tree
A playground is necessary for the children of an area to grow up. If it is wide open and if there is a Banyan tree in it that’s a bonus. Children can play there in the afternoon and can take rest under the f tree between games.
The weekly market or the haat can sit in the shade of the tree. The people of the locality can buy and sell necessary items there. Sometimes people arrange meeting there to discuss important issues or solve problems. So it is beneficial to both children and adults.
